A question about spark
« on: October 15, 2005, 01:00:22 PM »
I am getting things in order and it is going well (in no small part thanks to all the info here). My bike starts and runs well, sounds great now  . But it seems the spark is a lot weaker when the bike is warm. What is the most likely problem? Thanks for any help.

Robert

Does the bike start when hot?? There is added resistance to elec. components when they are heated.

The bike is vary hard to start after it gets warmed up but starts good when cold. (I should have been more clear in my first post but I was going to work sorry) This led me to eyeball the spark and when it is cold is looks a lot weaker. I would also like to set up a folder in the gallery, I need an admin to do this for me, correct?

Have you tried jetting (pilot) and air mix screw adjustments :?: How old are the reeds :?: They may need to be inspected. Compression test on a warm engine might be in order. You can set up your own photo gallery.

The jetting is to the chart here, I will finish dialing the air screw on my next day off (hard to do on a bike that is set up to not idel and is hard to start warm) The reeds are carbon and look new (Fresh top end on a new to me bike) and a through series of compression tests sounds like a very good idea. Thanks for the input. I will look these things over this week and post the results.

My bike was very hard to start when hot. After resetting float height and playing with the pilot and air screw it's one kick hot.

I just wanted to say thanks for the help (both to my sometimes foolish questions and the things I read using search). Bike starts first kick hot or cold :D still need to clean up the jetting on the needle as it is rich from 1\2 or so. but it runs and starts great,  :o .
