For single track woods riding this is the best mod you can do to a 500!!!!  I can’t explain  how great the  Rekluse works!!!

I would love one, but I will not do it till I get the two piece clutch cover modification done to my 03 KX500.

That and the 2 piece clutch cover conversion would be just too easy.

I have the Z-Start Pro on my 08 FE650 Husaberg (bout the same hp) and absolutely love it. Even with the stock plates it locks up great and the smooth engagement has gotten me out of many sticky situations well beyond my skill level.

Does the clutch lever still work with the Radius X design? And how about a hydraulic clutch or will the auto adjusting nature of the hydraulic setup conflict with the autoclutch?

My dad has a KTM 300, and I put a Rekluse on his.  It came with a special slave cylinder that you had to install.  I have one in my 250 and you have to manually adjust the clutch to have enough play in it.  This makes me think the cable replacement style Magura clutch would not work with this, as you can't adjust it in any way.

The Rekluse all allow you to use your clutch lever.  It just replaces part of your clutch pack with a centrifugal piece. They are awesome in the woods or rough terrain.

The Radius X design will work without a 2 piece clutch cover.  I happen to have a 2-peice cover so it was super easy to install!

The clutch lever will override the Rekluse.  However, the lever will feel WAY to tight when adjusted correctly.  There is 0 play in the lever!.  Strangley, I keep pulling in the clutch out of habit and it is a hard pull.  I have to remind myself that I don't have to worry about stalling it.  I can focus completely on the trail!.  In the woods this makes the 500 a blast to ride!!!

If any of you guys are old enough to have ridden a Husky Auto back in the day, it runs a lot like that.  But with brakes, suspension, turning, etc, and the springs don't brake!!!  I have left my KTM300 at home the last 2 weeks to ride the 500!!!  2nd and 3rd gear are all I have used.

I know you are not meant to ride too taller gear for the situation but...

Do you get much overheating through the clutch?or engine? Specifically in the really tight stuff when you are constantly requiring stop start on off throttle bursts when manoeuvring obstacles?

Does second gear feel great from standing start and mellow out the delivery of the mighty 500?

Does the auto clutch eliminate the need for a flywheel weight to smooth power delivery?

No overheating at all. Actually a guys KTM300 was boiling over on our ride. I have no flywheel weight added to mine. It is very smooth. I have found no negatives so far.

once its installed is there a lot of adjustment?  Not sure I can swing the two piece cover and the clutch right now.  If I have to take the cover off constantly I will wait till I can do both.

The one on my 250 is adjusted at the clutch lever, not the basket. I’m not sure if this one works exactly the same, but I would assume it does. On mine, you put a rubber band on the handlebar, stretch it over the lever, and rev the engine. If the lever moves back 1/4”, it’s adjusted correctly.

Exact same way. Adjusted the cable to 0 free play. Then 3 more turns out for baseline. Ended up going out 2 more full turns on cable adjuster .  That’s it!

1.Have you noticed any excess slipping in low rev high load conditions or does it lock up solid when you twist the throttle hard?

2.How do you perceive the wear in period to be, was there one?

No wear in at all. No slippage at all.  But mine is set up correctly. As with anything, correct set up is most important!  It’s easy to do. Just take the time to do it right and you will be very happy!!!!!

510 are you running a reed spacer?

And this maybe a dumb question but are you able to elaborate on what is a correct setup? This might save me pulling my hair out reinventing the wheel.

Cheers

I took mine out of the box and put it in!  Removed all free play from cable and then went 3 more turns on cable as instructions said. Ended up going 2 more turns on the cable to get it to not creep. It’s that easy.
You can put different springs in it but I just followed what the manufacturer recommended.
