Pike's Peak???
« on: June 27, 2018, 04:45:33 AM »
So we just attended the Pike's Peak Hill Climb, which was awesome this year by the way!! Viewed at the Cove Creek area just below Devil's Playground. And it got me thinking about what is will probably end up a pipe dream, but I am going to make a three year plan to get my bike and me in shape. I know it will be hard but I'ma try. Any input and suggestions gladly accepted!! :? I know jetting is gonna be tough. Only one 2 smoker this year (a quad) twin exhaust but did not resemble a Banshee. Much deeper tone also, will be editing all my footage and will post a link asap

What kind of carb are you running on your bike?  I think the Lectrons are more adaptable to the altitude, so maybe that is a mod you could do to get the bike ready for such a change in altitude.
Perhaps I have a dirt bike addiction?

You build the bike and ride it. I'll come and watch.  That's not far from the house.
If I have time I throw down a Heaven to Hell I.B.A. ride.

Bike right now has stock carb with TMR mods and TMR MOTOR.

Sounds like a deal, I will need all the encouragement and support I can get. The wife says she is definitely pulling life insurance on me before this endeavor. We were supposed to be here for 2 weeks and have now been here almost 4 weeks. The wife is ready to stay in the trailer here till we buy and build. This place is awesome and we are burnt out on Cali

My son is going to school at the Colorado School of Mines in Golden for Mechanical Engineering.  That campus is so beautiful, I'm actually pretty jealous of the boy.  Plus it's an hour from the ski resorts, which will probably come in handy when we visit.  Of course it's also three or four blocks from the Coors factory, in a state with legal recreational marijuana, so I might have made a bit of a tactical mistake in a letting him go there.   :-D

Hey, Umberto, you spelled it wrong...……...

The Colorado School Of Mimes

Not everyone understands that Golden, Colorado, besides being the iconic, long-term home of the Coors Brewery, also hosts the Colorado School Of Mimes. Founded in 1874 to train mining engineers, Colorado’s economy has since shifted far away from resource extraction toward supplying the ever-burgeoning entertainment industry. Introverts originally considering engineering careers find little difficulty fitting into the School’s more modern focus, as they arrive on campus so concave, faculty complain about having to wear miner’s headlamps to even call role. Born to not be noticed, today’s students find Mimes’ atmosphere perfectly congruent with their natural preferences.

The curriculum can be challenging, even for those uncomfortable with public speaking. “Public miming can be even harder to master,” claims one sophomore whose parents had previously encouraged him to join Toastmasters International. Mimes offers a minor degree in what they call Milk-Toastmasters, a course of study similar to public speaking but without the speaking part. “Holding an audience’s attention when you’re basically invisible seems like a definite impossibility,” the sophomore continues, “but the supportive faculty, many with extensive busking experience, understand how to silently encourage even the more extroverted.”

That’s awesome!  I’ll show that to the boy so he knows what he’s in for.

One of my employees thought it was the Colorado School of Minds. Because the mind is a terrible thing to waste.  :-D

Last night I thought you said School of Minds, then we talked about School of Mimes.
So I Googled it and School of Mimes came up and low and behold it's near where your
son is going.  He needs to go get a picture in front of the school.

Back to the topic at hand....We need to bump up the time line on your Pikes Peak run.  I hope to be around when
you plan on doing the run but keep in mind I ride motorcycles on the street in OKC.  Coming home tonight I was
dealing with the dumb sh..s driving slow in the fast lane, the meth heads racing in the slow lane and the "I don't have
a clue" idiot in the center lane traveling 45 mph with his flashers on and a front right flat flipping chunks of rubber.
I went to Pikes Peak back in 1977 and the road was gravel. My 223ci in line 6 cylinder 1964 Ford truck did not like
the altitude.

On my trip to Pike's Peak with the kids in 2010, we brought a picnic lunch to eat at the summit.  Unfortunately the summit is barren, windy, and the altitude headache is not pleasant.  We decided to go back down to the treeline.  I used my transmission, and really took it easy on the brakes (like they tell you to).  When we got to the treeline, the ranger stopped us and used a laser thermometer to measure our brake temperature.  We measured at 280 degrees, which was below the 300 that they wanted to see at this point in the descent.  We pulled over by that ranger station anyway to use their picnic tables and shade.  The tables happened to be by the ranger's hut, so we got to see a lot of cars come by and get measured.  Most were a little over the 300, but the ranger just told them to take it slow and they would be fine.  Then the little red Hyundai came around the corner.  I could see the brakes smoking from a pretty good distance, and the driver did not look like the sharpest knife in the drawer.  The ranger hit their brakes, and they came back at over SEVEN HUNDRED DEGREES!!  He ordered them to pull over, pop their hood, and sit for at least an hour.  When he got done, I asked him if that was the highest he had ever seen.  He said, "no, I've personally seen a NINE HUNDRED".   :-o  How those people didn't slide off the hill, I'll never know.

Now full disclosure, that may have been 500 and 700.  I'm old, and I've slept since then...
