'86 Engine in '96 Frame?
« on: April 02, 2018, 09:59:44 AM »
Hello All.  I could not find a shock for my '86, but I did find a complete '96 rolling chassis.  If I am interpreting the parts interchange list correctly, my '86 engine will not fit in that '96 frame.  Is that correct? Anybody know how serious the fit issues are?  Thanks for the help.

It will fit, you just need to do a few mods.  The 86-88 motors are a little easier to put in 250 frames because of the smaller head due to the more simple KIPS.  I put together a summary of what I did to stuff an 88 engine in a 2003 250.  The steps should be fairly similar (minus the head stay).  I love my conversion, and while it was a lot of work it was well worth it.

86 Motor should fit easy enough in 96kx 500rolling chassis

A few little things u would need
1:newer type inlet manifold {angle} 88 would best fit but later would do
2: bottom engine bolts will be little loose in mounting {8mm engine]/ 10mm frame}
3:U May need a head stay bracket
