2003 KX 250 front hub
« on: February 28, 2018, 12:06:35 AM »
Hi,

1st time post. My daughter's boyfriend just picked up an '03 250. I noticed the front spacer on the axle RHS slides back and forth on the axle about 1/4". I haven't pulled anything apart yet to see if there's anything obvious allowing this. But, on a visual, the 1st obvious thing is the hub itself. I don't recognize the brand or the part number to make sure this is the right hub for the bike. Does anyone recognize it before I dig further?

Thanks for the help,
Noel

A stock kx250 03 hub will measure approx 90mm from the outside of the bearing to the outside of the other bearing...
The four stroke engine: That's one stroke for producing power and three for wearing the engine out.

Thanks! That's the measurement I'd need.

I have Tusk wheels on my 2003 conversion, and those hubs are slightly more narrow than the stock wheels.  That hub looks aftermarket and may be a different size as well. Tusk makes a wheel for the 2004-2007, but not the 2003.  In fact, not many companies do, because the 2003 front wheel spacing is different from the later models bikes.  The difference is not in the hub from year to year (they are the same part number), it's in the fork lugs.  The 2003 had the under brake line routing, and the later model bikes had the standard routing.  I suspect your bike has later model wheel spacers.  I fit the Tusk wheels to my bike, but I had to make spacers using two of the larger brake side spacers (I bought two sets of aftermarket steel spacers).  I started by putting the brake side spacer on and adjusting it until the rotor is centered in the caliper.  Then I measured the other side and adjusted as necessary.  Don't forget that the axle has a shoulder that sticks out past the lug about 1/2".

Here is a recap of the measurements that I came up with.  Your's may vary a bit, but it should give you a starting point.

By the way, you can use the 04 and up brake line routing fairly easily if you want to improve braking.  Here is a quick guide:

Thanks for the reply! With the original outside to outside measurement and this info, I should be able to get the proper size spacers in place. This really helps. Thanks again.
