My bike being on Instagram elicited a lot of comments on the Acerbis gas tank. A lot of people didn't like the way it looked and a lot were convinced that my groin was in serious jeopardy. Honestly I didn't completely disagree. I really wanted to try another option. The only other oversize tank is the IMS tank, which at only 2.3 gallons is the same size as the KX tank. Removing the fuel pump gets you an extra .2 gallons, so the tank would be 2.5 gallons as mounted. That was the main reason I never considered it before as it represented a step back from my 2004's 3.0 gallon tank. I had a moment of honesty with myself, and realized that I don't ride as long as I used to, and I can always add the larger tank if I go on a long ride. I got the IMS tank, and installed it today. The first thing I noticed is that the midsection is much narrower than with the Acerbis tank. I think it looks a lot better as well, and the threat to my family bits is lower.
