What carb should I put on my KX500?
« on: April 29, 2017, 03:38:24 AM »
Looking at Roostius's flow bench numbers and info gathered from Kawasaki Team Green Mechanics we have come up with the following..

96-97 KX250 or a 2000 Cr250 carb.
Or you can go to Sudco and get a Keihin Quad vent Air striker 38mm for about 200.

You can use the newer Airstrikers as well but you need to block off a few things.

It will add 1 hp to the rear wheel on a completely stock KX500.. That is dyno confirmed.

The flow bench shows that it does just as well as a 41mm Airstriker for volume and velocity.   That is also dyno confirmed...
The four stroke engine: That's one stroke for producing power and three for wearing the engine out.

We need to come up with some decent jetting specs.

Sean Colliers bike.
pilot 55
main 175
16009-1613 NEEDLE-JET N89D - 2nd position
Slide 7

We ran this at Glen Helen 1700-1800 ft.. 50% C12 and 50% 91 California pump gas.

You will need the correct throttle and cable for which carb you choose.

I've never ran one.
I don't know anyone else who has ran one that big on a stock K5 either.
My guess is you would loose velocity and kill off the bottom end.
I could be wrong...
I actually have a 44 but I'm saving mine for something a bit more exotic :-)

I guess mine is pretty close to stock, with only the bigger bore.  Fl_Sharpshooter is also running a 44 Lectron on his with a fairly stock motor.  I don't have much to compare it to, but it does a pretty good job of responding down low compared to my worn out stock carb.
Perhaps I have a dirt bike addiction?

I wish I knew where one is near me. I would love to know what Goliath puts out.

I may have to do that.  I'll try to borrow a stock carb from Danger to see what the difference is.

If you end up doing it, let me know and I will see if I have a Quad vent air striker to send you...
It would be cool to see you duplicate our dyno info.
Also, what reed are you running?
If it's a VF2, try the low tension settings as well as the high tension settings.
You may get another surprise..

a 44 lectron picks up 2 all the way through the rev range vs the bored 39 kehin on a stockish bike. measured at the front sprocket.
