Street Legal lighting kit
« on: March 22, 2017, 12:54:39 PM »
Did some searching for this but most of the links on kxriders were gone and the posts were old.

I would like to make my Kx500 street legal here in Wa. I found our DOT page and it's pretty easy to get done I'm told.
headlight, brakes, turn sig, mirror, horn, the usual.

Looking to do it on the cheap.  Won't be riding at night, mostly so I can ride on service roads/forest roads between trails.  We have a lot of those type of trail around here

Baja design has a kit but it's $500. plus it says I need a new stator?  I wouldn't say I want to build this thing from scratch only to save $150 or so.  But maybe there are much better solutions.  I also haven't found many sites that sell Stators?

I was hopoing someone could point me to some websites and give me some fresh links to piece these things together.
Thank you.

PM Alward25  he can help you get what you need.
I used a battery operated unit for about a year.
It was only good for a hour but it was never a issue for me.
Now I use a MZB setup and ride forever..
The four stroke engine: That's one stroke for producing power and three for wearing the engine out.

I will p.m. him, thank you how much was your mzb kit? Could you send me a link and what part number

Battery might work, but if not if it's not too crazy expensive I might prefer to be more stable then one hour battery.
I was able to find a 50 watt light coil that goes on our existing stator that might work for this kit

Stator

Looks like about $400 and an evenings work.  Ilhave to PM alward25 and see what he has to say.

Let me know if anyone has input on that lighting coil and duelsport kit.
Thanks

I've tried to do some searching around I don't know who Alex is either.  After some searching it looks like the mzb is an electronic ignition with high wattage output? I'm fairly confident, but new two motorbike engines. Looks like that would need some timing adjustments?

Did a little more searching and it looks like there are some moose stators that will put up 250 Watts?
Based on what some guy said the 20-15 model puts up 230 Watts. Not 100% sure though.

I'm going to wait for a p.m. back. but before hundred bucks I might be going for the procycle kit with the lighting coil just to get street legal. Maybe a better upgrade later.

Does the mzb really help with the ignition? Isn't it like 500 bucks
