trying to make a KX250 woods worthy
« on: May 18, 2015, 02:15:02 PM »
So I have a 2006 KX250 that I am trying to set up to ride woods with - when I say woods I mean trail in illinos mostly a good bike width trail.
Anyway - i race GP & HS on a KX250f which is well my race bike -  i had some some intention of trying to use this bike for our GPs -

I want to try and ride this KX250 for woods, couple things I have had done -
Suspension re valved for me
Woods bars
13oz FWW
Rekluse EXP
Pro Circuit Works pipe ( not sure if going to keep this or back to stock )
Silencer - prob going to run R304  --

I have not ridden this bike much which is part of my issues - i tried riding it in an Enduro this past weekend ( mud fest ) well needless to say I only did one test section.

So what I am looking for is some knowledge / tips on anything else - guys who ride 2 strokes swear that if I can dial this 2 stroke in I will like it over my 4 stroke -   am all for one trying new things -

thanks

Hey 1kawboy, I think you can make a fine eastern woods bike out of your KX. I have a 2005 that I have transformed into a southeastern single track machine.
Heavy flywheel, clarke fuel tank, scotts stabilizer, rekluse exp, vee rubber trials tire,12 tooth front sprocket, and MotoVations suspension (best money spent ) and fmf Q-stealth silencer.

kawboy - hows your clutch pull with the EXP - mine is tight - and wears my hand out fast -
I have pretty much everything else on it you listed for yours lol

what are u running for a rear sprocket?   pipe?

how does the trials tire hook up in hard packed dirt?

thanks

Clutch pull is very hard, but I never use it now that I have the rekluse.
51 tooth rear. stock pipe. I will never own another knobby for single track
use. The only places that the trials don't win over the knob is hard braking
and hook up while leaned over.

rode some today - don;t want to admit opening ly yet -- but I was actually enjoying it today - not hip on the stiff clutch pull - thinking if I hang onto it - hydraulic clutch set up -

or stay in mid range n not worry about.

probably a bit late but hydraulic clutch would be a good idea , but if you get your jetting right you will find you dont have to pull clutch in as much at lower speeds because it will chug along pretty good down low
