Bad Stator causing backfire ?
« on: January 01, 2017, 11:22:37 AM »
Hello, I have a1987 KX500 that is very hard to start. It has started a couple of times and idles correctly.  When kicked over hard it is what I'd describe as afterfiring. It pops and bangs and smokes but doesn't kick back the kick starter. Tested and cleaned up the Stator and is in range . New coil and correct gapped new plug fitted. Good blue spark when grounded out on cylinder. All contacts are clean and earthed from Stator to frame. Carb has been cleaned and checked. Reeds look like they are fully closed. Plug is always wet and quite black when removed . Air mixture screw is 1 1/2 turns out. Removed flywheel - key is good. Has anybody ever found e Stator to be faulty even though it tests ok on multimeter.
Thanks for any advice
