I recently picked up an Atv with a kx500 engine. looking at the engine more closely the only identifying numbers i can find are C-1 and KH1 there are no numbers by the oil fill, just the KH1 on the backside of the fill. Anyone have an idea what year the engine might be or any other info.

That may be an 88.  I think the 86 and 87 had stickers that said KIPS, not cast in letters.

Perhaps I have a dirt bike addiction?
