I know I will be "adjusting" my riding style once I get back from this. I need to stop trying to ride like I'm 20 again. I don't want to go through surgery/physical therapy 3-6 months off the bike again. I'm also a lot more motivated to stay in better shape. The only thing that can protect your shoulder is the muscle.
Perhaps I have a dirt bike addiction?

I had my surgery yesterday, and it looks like I really dodged a bullet.  The tear was much smaller than what they saw on the MRI, and they were able to just clean up some loose stuff and send me on my way.  I should be back to normal on this shoulder in a couple of weeks, not months.  Now it's on to the right shoulder.  Yay!

Thank you again Brute and DoldGuy for all the advice.  I felt very comfortable going in to the surgery thanks to you guys.

Sounds like a plan. I'm just so glad my bike won't be parked for these months, I'd even ride the kiddie trails at Draper.  :-D

Thank you dirk_411.  I actually got off pretty lucky with my left shoulder.  It had no tear, just some bursitis debris and a couple of bone spurs that looked like a tear on the MRI.  I still have the right one to go, but maybe I'll get lucky on it too.  I actually got to go riding today and it didn't kill me.
