need help with buying spokes and nipples
« on: August 07, 2005, 02:24:51 PM »
I have an 87 KX-500 and I need to replace the spokes. I looked up the OEM Spokes and nipples and they were $270. I know that there are cheaper ones out there, Please let me know, and if any other year will work. I know none of the dealers around here carry 87 spokes and nipples. Will any other year or model work on this? It is stock as far as I know. I have a 140/80-18 tire on it.

Welcome, It's about time some one with an 87 500 has joined the group. I am restoring an 87 500. Look in the gallery(a.hughes 87 kx500). I will post updated pictures later this week. Made some changes. Check out prowheelracing.com they quoted me 60.00 each front and back. That's stainless spokes and nipples. Are you restoring your bike or trying to get up and running :?: Load some pictures in the gallery.

i am currently racing the 87 in a hare scramble series in VA. I love the bike, it just may be a little too much for the woods though. i will try to post some pics asap.

I run my in the woods and like it. Steahly makes a flywheel weight for the 87. I perfer not to run one. Some guy's retard the timing to soften the hit.
