Ignition timing...
« on: July 29, 2005, 03:09:07 AM »
Any hot tips and trix about ignition timing on the K5?
Is it all about making the adjustment, test it and then pull off the flywheel again and try a new setting?
Any help would do...
How much opening should i have on the sparkplug?
Low-cost racing was the idea... Used to be...

What type of flywheel are you using? You should be able to adjust the ignition timing while the flywheel is installed, which is held by a key so it is not adjustable. Aftermarket flywheels do not use keys.

Your stator plate will have three marks or lines engraved and then a line engraved or casted on the engine case. These should be able to see to the left of the flywheel. The line in the middle on the stator plate is standard timing. There will be two screw that hold the stator plate from rotating just loosen and advance or retard your timing. Moving the stator plate clockwise advances timing and moving ounterclockwise retards timing. Top line retard timing middle line standard timing bottom line advance timing. Plug gap is .020-.024 or .5-.6mm. Yes you will need to adjust timing and go test ride.

Let's us know how your results turn out. I have not adjusted my timing. It's set on standard.

My machine worked excelent today on the SM-track! Sett the timing on standard, but didnt get the time to adjust and test...  Will do soon!
Is there any kind of aftermarket ignition system for the K5? Something like a tuned system?
