Newbie building an 06 KX450f with 93 KX250 engine
« on: May 14, 2015, 02:37:28 AM »
Just signed up today. I have this bike I'm building, I bought it already started and am trying to figure out carb/airbox connection.. Does anyone have any insite on it? Obviously its been done plenty of times.. The top of the carb is even with the bottom of the airbox boot.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. I've done many snowmobile power transplants, but this is my first bike.
I'm sure I'll have other questions along the way..
Thanks Aaron

Can you post some pictures of what you are working with?  If you've never done it, here is a step by step guide on posting using Photobucket which is free to use.

Hey A.Frame187, welcome to the forum.
I've played around with several boots and I have decided on a 2000 CR250 air box boot for my conversion.
It is shown on the right side of the pic.

The boot will have KZ3T on the side of it.
A lot of sellers mix them up.

You will need to make an aluminum adapter for it.
The four stroke engine: That's one stroke for producing power and three for wearing the engine out.

Hope this works. That 2000 cr boot may be the option I need Sandblaster. What front pipe are you using on your bike?

Thanks for the help guys.

Hmmmm.... mine doesn't fit like that.
I need to take a double look at mine later today.

Sandblaster, yours doesn't look like that, because that's the 4-stroke airboot on that bike, in that last pic. Need the proper one, plus the adapter plate to make it work. Although, if you're Fanelli, you just use "s**tter pipe" to connect the carb and boot, the way they are now. Lol

I found a blown up 02 kx250 that I could probably own for $500.. Do you think that airbox boot would work? I guess I'd have to check to be sure.
Are the motor mounting points the same from a 93 to an 02? I've heard yes and I've heard no..  I figure if I get that blown up one is just a top end, I can get that motor rebuilt and eventually swap that in.
I also need to figure out an exhaust. I have nothing as of now. That blown bike just has stock, but it will give me something to start with.
Thanks again guys.

I bought a airbox off a 94 kx250 on eBay for $16 shipped. So I figured that would be a cheap test

So the 94 air boot doesn't look like it will work... It is too big to fit between the shock and the frame.. The shock will wear thru it. Sandblaster, which frame did you end up using? the CR or the KX?
open to any other Ideas you guys might have.. Thanks Aaron

I'll check again on Tuesday.
You will still need a adapter plate.

Sorry to bump an old thread, but what kind of adapter plate? Are you using the adapter plate for the connection to the air box, or to the carb? If you have it handy, could you post some pics?
