1 1/8 BARS
« on: June 14, 2005, 10:25:28 AM »
Just laided the 500 down today just as I was getting in to the meat of 3rd gear. Bent my 7/8 pro tapers and busted up my hand guards. Know that I need new bars I 'm looking at the 1 1/8 pro tapers. What will I need :?: I am guessing bar adapters and pro taper makes bars for these adapters to make up the height, throttle tube, what do I do with the cltuch and brake perch :?: Do the standard grips work :?: Just let me know what I need to upgrade. Thanks. P.S My shoulder is alittle sore and I added some new scratches to the helmet but rode her back to the truck.

Sorry guy's Looks like I answered some questions just by looking at my rockymountianmc book. I guess the 1 1/8 bars are just bigger in the clamp area.

Are the 1 1/8 bars any better about not bending during a crash :?:  Today I was tring to avoid a rut and run outside of it but My rear tire dropped down in it and down I went. Just barely bent my 7/8. Would the fat bars survie these type of landings :?:

I've done some pretty nasty stuff to my Pro Tapers and they've only recieved minor scratches. I believe if you mess some Pro Taper 1 1/8 you've got more to worry about than bent bars ;)

I will be ordering some this week or next. I can still ride with the 7/8 but they still need replaced. They are barely bent but it's good reason to get new ones. The shoulder gets stiff later into the night know my wrist is harting just alittle but i'll make it.

If you go to 1 1/8" Pro Tapers use triple clamp supports...the PT tapered 1 piece or two piece clamps ain't worth a s**t....sorry.....first crash they spin, set screw will strip......etc etc etc .......you will feel like you spent a whole bunch of $$ for dinner on a date and not get layed......
Maier, Cyrca even Acerbis make good bark busters....its all in the clamping device.......just my 2 c's
