Wossner Piston Question
« on: August 16, 2016, 07:18:47 AM »

Stock 99 KX125 going back together today. I'm waiting on delivery of my cylinder and wossner piston from Power Seal. The piston has no lubrication holes at the exhaust bridge. I'm thinking it would be a good idea to drill them in. Any thoughts from the crowd?

When I bought the Wossner for my 500 from Sandblaster, he had me drill and countersink two holes in the bottom of the piston for oiling.  Here is his guide I used:

Both pistons are Wossners.
The one on the left has had several mods to it.
I use a 4mm drill and try to get it fairly well centered.
I drill the hole about 8-10MM from the inside edge.
It is not critical by any means.
Then I chamfer the hole with a low speed chamfer.
The exact size is not important.
Just make it look like the pic.
Next I feel into the wrist pin area and see if there are any burrs in the new hole.
If so you can take a coat hanger and bend the end at a 90 degree angle.
Then hold a piece of 220 sandpaper over the end of the wire and work it back and forth until the burr is gone.

Then I take 220 sandpaper and go around the outside edges of the piston (Not the top edge or ring glands) and lightly remove the sharp edges.
All you are trying to do it break the sharp edge.
What that does is prevents your new sharp edged piston from scraping the oil off the cylinder during break in.

After all the mods are done I wash the piston thoroughly... Pre lube and install...

I'd call Wossner...to see if they have a recommended "timing", for holes to be drilled in the skirt...that way you get the best benefits out of them.
Excuse me, ma'am...but you've got extremely nice legs!!!...what time do they open???                                                                                                               https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n8tCgN3aryQ

Just off hand I would drill holes for the exhaust bridge...
But see what Wossner says.
They are always very friendly on the phone when I have talked with them.

Just saw the part about the exhaust bridge. Sorry about that.

Thanks for the quick replies. I'm awaiting a call back from John at Wossner.

Power seal undercuts the exhaust bridge on these replates but from the damage I've seen on stock cylinders and pistons i'll drill holes unless the Wossner people have a very very good reason not too. I was surprised  the piston was not drilled when I received it. Anyone else use their stock (b) 125 piston that was drilled?

Not to worry Umberto. I found good info in your post. And thanks to all

The bikes running fine, 2 hours in. I've been busy and if Wossner did call back I missed them. I reinstalled the old oem piston less rings and marked their high and low point of travel. It seems there is always one oil hole on the bridge at all times and the travel distance just slightly overlaps. Installed the new piston, marked the bridge and drilled 2 holes just slightly larger than the oem.

For some reason I couldn't apply the "Snowflake Factor", maybe due to lack of surface area on this small piston.

Thanks again.
