Wanted to say Hi to everyone. I bought a 89 KX500 on Monday. Ive been reading the posts a bit and it seems like everyones scared of these bikes. Pretty much everyone I talked to said Im crazy for buying this bike cus its too big for me. Especially since Im a first time rider. I should be able to handle it. Im 5'10" 215lbs. I cant wait to take it out riding next Monday then Ill know for sure if I was crazy to buy this bike.

Yup thats what Ive been reading. I took it for a spin the day I picked it up but just rode up and down my ranch going slow since I had no gear on.
Oh I also have a hard time starting the thing. I need to practice.

Yep I agree with Hoopty " Throttle control young grasshoppa" ! Welcome to the group! I have been riding big bore two strokes for 35 years and I can tell you they can get you out of as much trouble as they can get you into! So be cool an learn to control the beast!
Alan
PS Nice Bike! Get a reed spacer for it! Makes it much easier to ride!

Welcome, Throttle control is everything. One of the great things about these bikes is while your buddies are shifting all the time all you'll have to do is twist the right grip. These bikes are alot of fun just remember to repect them.

Pretty clean 89 bike. I saw that bike on e-bay last week and it was hard not to bid on it. If I may what was the final price you had to pay?
