New KX owner
« on: August 21, 2015, 11:50:37 AM »
Hi folks,

Jim here.  Just wanted to stop in to say hi. I'm in Indy and not that new to motorcycles and all of that.  I have only had one Kawasaki and that was a 94 KDX200, that I converted to street use when I lived in Michigan. I have had a lot of different machines and sold them all before I moved.

I finally got to a point where I could get a "new" machine after going 10 years without an off road toy.

Being able to get a new ride, I wasn't looking hard, but found a 2000 K5 that is all original and wasn't beat up that bad so I picked it up today.  I will be poking around to find info and all of that.  I have a small list of things to do but sure it will grow.

I'm sure I will be posting things, I just need to gather all the info that I can before I do so.  Most of my questions will be in other topics so I may not even post but wanted to give a quick intro.

Hi Jim, welcome to the site.  It's fun to follow other people's builds, so please don't be shy to post pics and tell us about what you're doing to your bike.  Don't worry about that small list of things to do to your bike, I'm sure it will grow once you get a chance to see all the great ideas some of the K5 guys have on here.   :-D
Perhaps I have a dirt bike addiction?

Yeah, after looking around there is a lot of ways that I could go.

I am going to start with rebuilding the suspension and all of the bearings and such. Then replace all rubber hoses/lines after that I think I will run it and see how it is.  As of right now it does start and shifts great, going into 1st/N/2nd it is smooth.  I just want to get a better feel for the bike.

Once I get that done, I might tear it down to paint the frame and to clean up everything.

what I kind of want to do is get it plated for the street and also dual use at the sand dunes.  However the dunes are a 6 hour drive so I will not be going as much as I did when I lived in Michigan.
