bike full of surprises.
« on: July 05, 2015, 04:05:30 PM »
im  learning more and more about the k5 i bought last summer by the day. so i split the case expecting to just change the crank seals and bearings . i pull the seals and press the bearings ,not exactly in that order,but...... then after i get the new crank seals on i get the bearings out of the freezer just to laugh.... the crank is oversized by ???? theres a quarter inch of space between the bearing seats and the oem bearings. i wish it was that easy. i wonder how much its over lobed and shafted.the shaft says 302 ...dont know if that means anything. the head is ported and has an fmf stamp on the side of the barrel above the kips logoo. dont know what o got here ... calipered the piston i removed and the cylinder os 85.95 or there about. the top seems oem. whats the deal? i wonder...
hell ,i,m so broke . if it cost a nickle to take a s**t, id have to puke.....

If you post pics of the cylinder... bottom.. intake.. exhaust... and degree wheel it, we can give you a better idea of what you have.

just like surprises come you take the good with the bad. this surprise turned out to be whoever was one of the frior owners knew enough about machining to really cause me a headache. the main shaft bearing loners were removed and a larger bearing was put in to compensate for the missing liner. now the bearings  inner race has become loose(or maybe never really fit tight onto the shaft) and the transmission oil is slipping past the shaft into the crankcase. as ive been advised to try by a member of this forum is to get a piece of pipe a bit larger o/d and a bit smaller i/d (lathed) and thread lock it into where the liners should be then re drill the oiling holes through the insert.  therefor i would have to say i really dont want any more surprises other than when i get done with  this bitch she needs to surprise me that shes thankful and run like raped whore shes supposed to run like.

call fmf and ask them if they have done any work based on the serial number. my pro circuit motor was built by them and its far from original but everything is in their database for a rebuild

Does the motor have serial numbers?    I know what's going on if it doesn't.... Or if they are hand stamped....

i  gave up on the motor and bought another motor. kinda bulls**t that some body who owned it previously went to the shop with it and whoever the mechanic was decided that some bearing that was (id have to go re mic it) but big enough od for the journal he lathed but the id was too big and would just slide off the shaft. so what im guessing is the owner never got to know exactly what went on but just to cover his ass the mechanic etched the koyo 6303 or 6306 whatever the oem  size is into the outer race. you can plainly see that its not a manufactured stamp. if i remember correctly the bearing oem  30 x 72x 19mm. and the one that replaced and was etched koyo 6303 was like 31or 32  x 76 x19mm. so ya somebody was cheating and that was an impossible size bearing to find  the 30 x76 x19mm just doesnt seem to exist. i checked with a lot of bearing manufacturers and got many returned emails telling me they knew of no bearing that size???????????????

What are you going to do with the cases?
The four stroke engine: That's one stroke for producing power and three for wearing the engine out.
