2000 kx 250 fork oil level
« on: July 09, 2015, 03:32:43 PM »
Time to do some maintenance on the kx tomorrow night... Getting new front tire and tube , sintered metal brake pads ...
And I'm going to try my luck putting new seals in the front forks.... I've watched some videos and figured I'd give it a shot.... My question is when filling with oil what should the level be...  And has anyone on here rebuilt their own forks before... Thanks in advance

105 mm is a pretty standard setting, without the spring installed.  If you are a little heavier you can go as high as about 95mm.  If that does not do what u want you need to step up your springs.

Groot luck

Mxa said 85mm from the top of the tube with fork collapsed and springs removed. Compression 8 turns out and rebound 12-14 turns out.

Well I went ahead and changed out the seals and bushings last Saturday ... Ended up running oil at 76mm as I'm a heavier rider .. I got answers between 70-85mm...  This was my first time doing forks .. I didn't have any specialized tools bullet/seal driver ect .. Ended up using electrical tape to protect seals and a piece of 1 1/2 pvc Tee to drive everything... It worked great... Rode for about 5 hours on Sunday and it didn't leak a bit.... Bike worked flawless... Now the rider on the other hand had one real bad get off .. Thankfully I had all my gear on and suffered only a small amount of rash between shoulder and bicep.. The helmet did its job and I ordered a new one on Monday...
