1986 KX 250 pipe WHAT WORKS?????
« on: June 25, 2015, 08:27:34 PM »
Having a hell of a time finding a pipe for my kx .I heard a 88 250 might work with some changes. What changes were made? If brackets were taken off where new attached or welded on?  After market is better FMF. PRO CIRCUIT. or DG.

I myself would contact one of these guys...like Custom Pipes Inc, a.k.a. CPI out of Utah...and spend the extra money, and have a brand new one built.
http://www.kxriders.com/forums/index.php/topic,8164.0.html

there's a few members on here that have had CPI pipes built for their builds over the years...and have had nothing but good things to say about them.

good luck whichever way you chose :-)

I live in Lake Elsinore CA. The other side of the world. Between your price and shipping its not cost effective, thanks away. The custom make option is not within my budget. I really am looking for an after market pipe. Again, does a 88 work with some mods? What mods were done to make it fit? Anyone? Thanks

Like I said in your 1st post on the other thread you started...you can modify one to work...
be prepared to relocate a mount or two...and sure you have enough clearance between the bottom of the fuel tank and the top of the pipe...it can be done with relative ease.

or again, search e-bay relentlessly a couple times a day.
best of luck.

ok your right, shipping and customs clearance makes it to expensive for that long way ...

the 87/88/89 pipes would definetely work on the 85/86 frames .. i´m in the lucky position, that i could see it directly in the past ... the 85/86 frames are little bit higher (the 86 pipe doesnt fit under the tank of my 87 , because of this fact ) so you have to modify the pipe connection to the right height to the silencer and maybe thats all.
you´ll see it directly if you have a 88/89 pipe...  i rather to buy an unplated pipe like pro circuit workspipe or you find an cheap and good used one of the 88/89 ...

ps: my 87 pipe is modified with the lower part of a 96 pipe because it were to damaged for repairing and

i had my 97 bigbore kx360-motor with modifyed lowboy pipe in my 87 frame, all could be done with an talented welder ... see it here on my website  http://der-motopunk.de.tl/projekt-evo_racer-kx250E1-.htm

and one preview-pic  8-)

You could also make a 86/87 tecate pipe work but the stinger bends the wrong way at the end.

I have a Pro Circuit platinum pipe for a 86 KX250 I used on my Tecate for awhile. It is just hanging in my garage collecting dust and rusting.
