1990 kx80 owner. New to dirt bikes and in need of help.
« on: August 13, 2015, 05:17:00 PM »
Whats up guys. Im 29 yo, live in the Los Angeles area and have never owned a dirt bike in my life.  So i decided to buy a dirt bike off a friend. He bought the bike in a yard sale a year before i decided to take it off his hands. He lived in the city so didnt use it much. The bike seemed to be in good condition and all but he didnt take care of it. he didnt keep it in a shelter so sun and rain would cause wear and tear. My cousin bought a dirt bike and let me use it and i fell in love with riding, for fun. Since my friend didnt care for his bike i aske if he would want to make a deal for it. Of course, he said, wats the deal? I traded my 1995 Acura Legend with 85,000 miles on it in excellent condition for his 1990? Kx80 and 1,500 bucks. Deal was done. Took the bike up to the high desert where my dad lives and rode it for about 30 mins, man that was fun. Used it a few more times over the next few months no more than 20 min a ride. My cousin that owns a bike, bus it like me, first time owning a bike, decided to take my bike out for a ride, since his clutch cable was giving him problems. He said within 10 min my bike gave out andhe couldnt it get it to kickstart again. After an hour of letting it sit. He kickstarted it and it turned on but the engine was making a loud scary knocking sound. Now what? Im clueless on what it could be. I know hot to do mechanic work but on cars, and im willing to open it it up and see whats up. My guess is it ran with out oil so something gave out. Any ideas guys. Thanks in advance
