Real weight of the kx500??
« on: January 11, 2005, 09:02:11 AM »
As you can tell from my other thread I'm in the process of looking at some 500's. A friend of mine has been trying to convince me to get an rmx250 thats for sale locally. OUt of curiousity, I checked the dry weight on the rmx and it was around 239lb depending on year. The kx5 lists at 220lbs. Anybody ever get thiers on a scale? Now out of fairness to the suzuki, I belive that dry weight is all fluids except gas.

Mines about 230+lbs ready to go.  Since my personal immenseness weighs 200lbs I don't worry too much about my bike's weight (within reason of course). I've seen some pretty large bodied people spend $1000 or more on a 450 pipe to save 3 lbs. Cam.

Aye, have noticed some people spending a fortune on Titanium bits and bobs but if they spent less on pies and Mars bars the all up weight of them and the bike would be far less.

Not that I am as slim as a racing snake either :(

To quote a friend of mine "the cheapest way of improving this bike's performance is for me to loose some weight". He's into road racing and he's got expensive light-weight carbon stuff all over the bike...

So...what most of us are saying is that KX500 riders are not concerned about the weight of the bike because we are all fatties, correct?

btw...I kid!  I'm 6'3" and weight in at a hefty 240lbs

I only weigh 62kg which in your (oldschool) measurement i believe is 136lb.  Yes sometimes when i kick it over i doesn't actually go over, it just gets to the next tdc and stops with the kicker horozontal with more movement to go.  That generally only happens when knackered and bike warm.  I did weigh my bike with roughly half a tank and it was 116kg (255lb) and my mates 2001 CR250 was 106kg (233lb)
