Pointers for lacing new wheels...what to do before starting?

Hi all,

I'm getting ready to replace my rear wheel since it was cracked and welded. (87 KX250)

The welding wasn't done by a seasoned welder at the shop, but "they" said they could do it. Took it back a second time since I saw a hairline crack in the weld and now I'm out the money I spent. Plus I can't adjust the spokes to straighten it out.

Anyway, live and learn.....I'll feel safer with 2 new rims and spokes underneath me anyway....Plus now I can "properly" clean up and paint both hubs  :-D

I have new rims and spokes and asking for advise before I disassemble the old wheels.

I know to measure the offset, but what else should I do before, during and after I start?

The four stroke engine: That's one stroke for producing power and three for wearing the engine out.

I was going too...but I mean like should I put anti sieze on the spokes threads, or dip the nipples in grease so they turn smoothly on against the rims...things like that..

I never have but I wondered about putting never seize on the nipples.
Perhaps some of the master wheel builders will chime in...
