building an 87 kx500 "kurt nicoll" worksbike-replica
« on: March 31, 2015, 12:39:51 AM »
kurt nicoll was beside dave thorpe , georges jobe one of my heros in the old 500 gp worldchampionchip. i always wanted a gp-bike or a replica made. here is a pic of kurts 87 worksbike :

after 2 years of thoughts on this in my head, i am now on the starting line. picked up this 87 roller without tank seat and brakes at last weekend and the wrenching fun starts now to my 3. individual project:

after a little walk into my spares-room : voila looks like a bike again ..  8-)
the seat is from a 86 kx125 still with oem-cover, tank and plastics were a cheap ebay-find 2 years ago

the motor i have since last year: 88 kx500 , rode it last year in my 87 kx250 frame for testing and jetting..

It's a work of art!
The four stroke engine: That's one stroke for producing power and three for wearing the engine out.

I was fan of THE KID Eric Geboers and my brother Nicoll.
He even missed second heat at a GP, waiting for Nicoll to get his riding shirt.
Only Nicoll gave it to some one else :|, so he got that CAMEL jersey they used.

and now you are hakan carlquist-fan, like your profile-foto??  :-)

the decals are on my long parts list...   if the time comes, i have to find out, who is able to make me the mxa-team kawasaki - seatcover with name ...  but first the mechanical things. i plan to use it as racebike, not only for show
. i was also thinking of making a thorpe , malin, or billy liles replica, but i´m no big friend of the 90/91 frames with the brackets on rear shock  ...  8-)

Do you have the 250 tank on the 500?. I know the 250's and 500's use the same frame and shrouds but he radiators are different part number I want to get one for my 87 KX500 to slim the mid section down

the left radiator is the diferent. and in fact: its all the same, except the little elbow on the bottom for the cooling hose to the cylinder ... kx 500 has the elbow, kx 250 is straight .. thats what i did last year between 250 rad and 500 cylinder

I'm just a big Fan of al OLDSCHOOL 500cc riders. When I rode the MONTE NAMUR in 04. Geboers told us about The Beer stop in 1988. That he was in his last year and everybody gave up he could win. Since than I'm a fan of Carla.
