As some of you know a few of us are compiling data for a very thorough KX500 engine build.
Everything as part of the main build will have to be approved by Motorrad.
When it is done it will be copied to this site for everyone to see.

So, we are looking for your thoughts on tips or tricks you may have found helpful and perhaps a few never mentioned...

Finally got a donor cycle...
It is suppose to be newly rebuilt but we'll see when we get to it..  :lol:
I know that the forks and the shock were just rebuilt because we did them about 5 months ago  8-)

What year is that E2 head?
Any differances between E1 E2 heads?
 Thinking is differant compression ratio from 90 on but i have seen E1 heads on later motor  on ebay
Think both head look visually similiar /squish, combustion chamber size

lubrication modifications, such as piston hole drilling or cutting of one of the edges as seen in the top end rebuild, anything that can improve lubrication, and make them really detailed and easy to understand so no one makes a fatal mistake

I think a diagnostic on what went wrong in the first place to save Pete & Repete from chiming in. Piston reading chart type stuff, cold seize , hot seize , detonation. green or silver speckled electrodes. If there's foreign matter in the piston crown, don't be a dum bass look at the main bearing cage
if I only had a pair, I could actually ride this thing

piston to cylinder clearance needs to be increased after about 100hp, or adding roughly 40 from stock.

this is a wossner in a stock bore.
