I just picked up a motor project and was wondering how I can tell what year it really is? I searched but couldn't find any answers. :?

Here it is. It's not much now but will run again. I put it together to see what all is missing. It's missing a few parts.

I don't know how many hours are on it. I do know it came all blown apart. I have to either get the right case welded or replace it. The guy sold the clutch cover before I picked it up. So I need one of those, full electrical, and other parts. It seems like a lot, but I couldn't pass it up.

Its easy to spend $$$ on a worn kx motor
main issue to watch out for are worn crank journals  cracks on the exhaust bridges , + ususal wear and tear

If you post the first 10 characters of your engine ID number we should be able to narrow down the year for you.
The four stroke engine: That's one stroke for producing power and three for wearing the engine out.

Lol, it was in pieces when I got it. I threw it together for the pictures and to see what was all missing. The rod bearing is good and we'll as the rod. The ignition side Web is shot so I'll be looking for a new or used crank. The right case is cracked in the bearing journal for the clutch. Not sure if I can get it welded and machined or if it will be cheaper to replace it. It needs a bore and piston and a bunch of small odds and ends. Can a 250 ignition be used on these? Oh, need an ignition cover and clutch cover.

Sounds like a lot of work, but I want to fix it. Bring it back to life.
