I'm a 40 yr old with thoughts of regression. My son started racing 6yrs ago and gave me the itch again. Rode alot when I was younger and stopped to go to college. Last bike before college was a friends KX420. Found a great deal on a used '99 KX 500 and could'nt resist. Problem is I'm wondering if I should have bought a really good pair of sneakers to get in shape before I bought the bike.

Started out in my younger years on a QA50, then to a DT100, then YZ 125, then YZ400 and wrapped it up on the KX420 in the early 80's

Son races a Red 85. Mainly bought that because he's vertically challenged and it had the lowest seat height.

This site is great and full of info!!

Welcome!

I had to look up your KX 420 since I just started riding Kawie's in 2000 myself!  I guess I was riding YZ's in those days! Please post some pictures when you have time!

Conditioning ! The more time spent behind the bars, the more conditioned to riding you will become. First few rides can be a struggle, but if you ride often enough [at least once a week]you'll find the muscles get working nicely again for the job they're doing. Have fun with and welcome back.

Have been real busy and not looked at this part of the site for a while. Arigato, I got the weider home gym in my asement for the kids, I will be a regular down there also. Have the stationary bike down there also. I'm just trying to figure out how I can simulate the pull of the 500 on that. Mikesmith, a friend of mine had a pristene 420 up to about 8 years ago. The thing started nearly everytime on the first kick hot or cold. The jetting must have been perfect. He sold it for around a grand.

I had a KX420 back in the day. That bike had the longest swingarm I've ever seen stock. First bike I ever rebuilt by myself. ahhhh, back in the day........

I think they were gold colored swing arms then.Fox used to have a full page picture of Brad Lackey doing a wheelie up a grassy hill in there catalog in the '70's on his works bike  that was used to develop the 420.It would still be a amazing picture to this day!
