Dirt Bike Addict from Oklahoma
« on: January 14, 2015, 09:16:03 AM »
I've been reading the forum for quite some time, just never got around to registering.  I've been riding since I was 6 and always rode and raced Kawasakis.  I took a long time off from riding, but got back into it when my son was old enough to ride.  Unfortunately, I discovered Craigslist and I think I may have a bit of a problem.  :-D  My current stable includes a 2004 KX 250 with 08 KXF shrouds, 14 fender and number plates, ASV Levers, Tusk racing wheels, and Factory connection 07 suspension.  I rebuilt the blown up engine with a replated cylinder from Millennium Technologies and a Wiseco forged piston.  I have some Decal MX graphics that I am going to add this weekend.

I also have a 2003 KX 250 with a 2001 KDX 220 engine and KYB Kit Suspension.  The ugly guy behind it is me.

I don't have pictures uploaded, but the current fleet also includes a 2005 KX 125 that is my son's, a 2003 KTM 200 SX, and a 2008 KTM 105 XC.  I also have a 2007 KX 250 that the 2004 is replacing.  I should have that on Craigslist by the time the "tax-return" season starts.

Anyway, thank you for being my support group.  Evidently there's no 12 step program for two stroke addicts.   8-)

Hmmm, I seemed to miss on getting the pictures posted.  Sorry about that.  Any suggestions?

There is a subtle difference in the URL for the direct box and what is displayed in the address bar.  Thank you for the help Foxx4Beaver!

you're welcome....
nice looking bikes.
do the KXF shrouds bolt right onto the '04 issue free?...or did you have to "make" them fit?

It was a little complicated.  I sanded off the stock mounting bucket from the KXF and then cut the mounting bucking out of my stock 04 shrouds.

The stock gas tank bolt lined up nicely with the next hole over in the shroud, so I glued the bucket to the shroud with super glue just to hold it in place.

I then put fiberglass drywall tape and JB Weld in from behind.

The two bottom holes I had to build simple aluminum brackets to get from the stock radiator mounts to the mounting holes.  It was probably a lot easier than I made it, but I would definitely recommend a warm garage.  JB Weld and super glue don't like the cold.

nice job, and that's cool you took pics of the process!
I've seen a couple bikes with the F shrouds before, but never got the chance to ask  anyone how well the fit was.
it's definitely a different look...and it gives more options to some of the newer graphics you can't get for the older 2T's/bikes.

Thank you.  I try to remember to always take pics of what I've done.  It saves time when I have to remember how to fix it later when I've done something stupid.   :-D
