I just noticed in this pic, that your carb/air boot connection is missing the clamp on the airbox side. That would explain all the black crap and moist dirt on the back end of the carb....and "could" also be the culprit as to why it's starting hard and idling at nearly full throttle.
Either way the carb's gotta come off and be cleaned...but be sure you get the clamp that goes on there, even if you just use a heavy gauge hose clamp.
Excuse me, ma'am...but you've got extremely nice legs!!!...what time do they open???                                                                                                               https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n8tCgN3aryQ

I'm also seeing an awful lot of red silly-cone too.

Yea, I mentioned that in the earlier post, also thought that could be the problem to the carb being completely out with idling etc. Do you think one of these will work?

Or is there a specific one to use?

there is a specific clamp from Kawie that goes there, and that should be used...but yes, you could get away with that clamp you posted a pic of if need be.

Ed,

I would pull the carburetor to clean & inspect, then start it again to see what I had with the motor. Looking at your pics, I would be suspect of all work done by the previous owner & the very high idle could just be from the carb. If memory serves, the slide will fit in the carburetor ABOVE the throttle position sensor (throttle would be 3/4 open always) & would cause your symptoms.

Keep us posted,
