a little lean on the mixture...
« on: April 03, 2005, 12:32:22 PM »
went a little lean on the mix today and locked the motor at the top of 5 th gear.   nice break in huh?  oh well, live and learn.  Dropping off at kawi monday for a top end,   any suggestions?  it was enjoyable for the 30min it did run.  I need shorter gearing for my woods riding,   any help would be appreciated.

Dude that sucks. You are the guy that just bought a new 04 kx500 just a couple of weeks ago. I saw a picture here some where. What ratio did you mix at :?: Or did you go to lean on jetting :?: Do the top end yourself midwestactioncycle.com has complete kits for 126.00. What gearing are you running :?:

Musturbo,
Sounds suspicious!  I have my doubts on the mixture since I run 60:1.  Possible air leak?  I had that same thing happen on an older CR500.  After a full rebuild I took it out to break it in and it kept seizing. Seized 7x by the time I got back to the truck. Racked my brains, questioned my mix, looked at cooling system, looked for air leaks or anything that could cause it.  The cause turned out to be the CDI black box going bad (eventually no spark too).  Replaced the box and all was well (after some more rebuilding of course).  Hope this helps. Cam.

I went 80:1   w/ bel-ray hr-1  by accident.  Dropped the bike off monday.  The mechanic working on it has a 500 himself, so I figured i would let the dealer do this build.  Thinking of going with a 53 tooth rear to shorten my ratio a little.  next  buiild I will do with a coated piston, ported cylinder, fmf gnarly  pipe, and  silencer.  I wanted to get a base i was happy with before the mods begin.  Funny thing is i have logged many hrs on  the dynojet tuning  Fords and to be so dumb as this is just killing me.  If the  bike will work on our dyno I will post  results and a/f jetting ratios with each mod.
