KX 250 - 98 cylinder on 94 engine?
« on: December 14, 2014, 02:21:25 AM »
Hi, I have a used 94 engine which needs replating. Instead of that I could buy a 98 cylinder/head in good condition and use it.

Whats the better option? I have heard that the 98 engine should be the best. Can I simply change the cylinder or are there more parts to change?
Do I need the cylinder head or is it the same like 94?

Thanks!

98 head fits 95-02 per http://www.partzilla.com/parts/detail/kawasaki/KP-11001-1425.html so you will need a 95-02 head to install on the 98 cylinder. Technically to reap all the benefits of the 98 you would need ignition and pipe too but it should install/work on your 94.

Sepp,

The 1998 (1851) cylinder will bolt right on to your bottom end, but you will need the power valve setup for the 98, as your 94 setup will not work. The 94 head will work on the 98 setup, but has a smaller squish width versus the 98, which can be better depending on what type of power you are looking for. As far as exhaust pipes, your 94 pipe will fit the 98 cylinder but the 98 has a smaller exhaust duct and so does the 98 exhaust pipe.

The 94 is a good setup stock, and is actually faster than the 98 IF ALL of your power valves are in good working order....

Hope this helps.
