Trying to find out what model valve this came from.  The 89 is very very similar, but a little larger.   The valve opening (diagonal slot)  is also a little wider on the 89 valve.

unknown valve -- maybe 87?

89 valve - note the difference in valve opening width

So what did you end up doing?

I have basically the same problem. Restored 1989 kx 125 and then found out power valve is broken. Mine is the LH one 12005-1113

just keep buying scrap heads until I find one with a good LH valve?

burn I had mine repaired by a guy on VitalMX (thread).  That's my plan A in case I can't find a NOS right hand exhaust valve.    I may have a LH exhaust valve I could sell ya once I know I won't need it.

I had exactly the same problem with my 99 250,LHS valve was broken and KIPS was solid....absolute pain in the ass to find a second hand one...dont give up they are out there just be patient.
The symptoms of this not working on my bike-it was like riding a 4stroke.

So I finally got my replacement LH valve. Brand new from Kawi. Went to install it and found the RH one is also not salvageable. So I am in search of one. Going to ask the place I got the LH one if they can get me a RH. Why would Kawi disc the RH and not the LH?

They probably cast the same number of LH and RH valves, but the right side valve tends to freeze up more with no/little maintenance.  Just a guess.   I've heard of a couple people talk about starting to create replacement valves for these old machines.   Earlier in this thread someone got a reproduction LH valve off a KMX200 from a company in England.   I wrote that company and they said they are buying used valves when they see them, but they are right now just sitting on them - which sucks for people like us who have bikes to restore.

Someone else in the KX500 forum also said they were getting some CNC equipment and would be possibly recreating some of the older KX5 valves.  If that is successful maybe they will branch out.

Those can't be the only people thinking about this.    With 3D printing now a "thing", how much longer before steel/AL objects can be 3D printed, and the cost should be a fraction of what it would take to have one made with CNC equipment.

Looks like I bought a 1985 RH(?) valve.   NOS, maybe I can sell it back to someone who needs it.

So getting down to the bottom of it..

12005-1113 LH is still available straight from Kawasaki(old stock)
12005-1114 is disco with no remaining.

I ordered another LH and will machine the slot out to since that is the only different. Wont have a mark to line them up but can do it by sight. Just like what the other guy did with the KDX valve I guess
