2007 KX250 2T SUSPENSION ON A 2003?
« on: November 28, 2014, 06:11:37 AM »
hello all,

I picked up a set of forks and rear shock off of a 2007 kx250 2stroke. I own a 2 2003 kx250's, one is a build in progress.

I guess I'm looking for someone with experience with revalving the 06/07 2stroke suspension for offroad.

I already have 03 forks and shock done with racetech valves and sprung for my weight. they are pretty good.

I plan to shorten the 07 shock most likely at the clevis to work with the 03 linkage. I have read it is 20mm longer, mostly I wanted this for the high speed dampening adjustment.

the plan is to have everything revalved by WER for offroad.

I have read about the importance of changing the small compression valve? spring inside to reduce harshness.

so I guess the main question is after revalve can I expect the newer 07 AOSS suspension setup to out perform the 03 stuff or will it not be as good for the gnarly northeast offroad conditions?

thanks,
Andrew

WER & Drew have been my exclusive suspension valver since my '00 CR250. My husband and I have both competed (points chasing full season & selective events as of recent) in ECEA enduro's for ages and nobody gets 'em plusher & more composed then Drew (with enough range to go from monster sand whoops to rock gardens).  We've worked together on getting the valving right back in '03 and have reqeusted every other KX we've brought in to be valved the same.  As for the '07 fork & shock, we've done a little riding on my '07 with the stockers before shelfing them (the shock seems pretty good), but I still haven't bothered to go any further with them because the '03 KX has one of the best forks I've ever used (once revalved by Drew). So much so, that we've purchased an extra set for the newer bikes.  Our '07 currently has revalved '04 KX fork & shock ('04 forks need the bladder disabled for hardcore rock gardens/square edge stuff, they're not bad, just not as good as the '03 forks).  Personally, if your riding off-road in the north-east, I would have Drew/WER revalve your '03s suspension.  It'll be a lot better then the Racetech valves (had a buddy who for years used Racetech valves & finally rode a properly valved bike, now he gets his bikes revalved by Drew too).  I've ridden a lot of bikes valved or set-up for off-road and I've had a lot of buddies ride our bikes and they all say the same thing coming off of our KX's with valved '03 forks, that they didn't feel nothing (no feedback, super plush).

I looking for a set of 03 or 04 forks for my kx250 01 , I had both of them models from new , but are long gone the 01 has the 500 engine in it but the forks are not up to it , you guys wouldn't mind sending the valving specs for the 03 , if I get a set I could try it , many thanks.

You have to contact Drew at Works Enduro Rider for that.  I'm sure his specs are proprietary, but he does do magic with the valving!  I'm sure he'd valve them for you to Lissa & Rob's spec.  Rob has a set of '03 forks on his '04 KX250-500 SF conversion and that bike is so composed off-road!  Make sure to get the clamps too with the forks for your bike.

Get the clamps from a 02 KX250 as they were 48mm's.

AS I am a suspension tuner my self I would not get any one to revalve my stuff . as in the suspension business , its all secrets , the only way to learn what the big tuners do is check there stacks , believe me in Australia I checked a few and its interesting to see how 2 tuners revalve the same bikes and end up similar performance , but some are way off , because they don't listen to the customer I had to revalve some of there stuff to what the customer wants, theres no magic in it , If you know the rider speed , what he want, what he does not like about his suspension , very important, you can dial it in , I have our own track were we do suspension testing and even have the customer ride it . I thought you guys had the valving specs written down as I would of recorded it for later referrence , I record all specs I do and others do , even the stock bikes as I tried to get stock settings of race tech once and they said they don't keep them , bulldust. as I had guys convert from gold valves back to stock then sell the bike ,so its important to keep the information, you can have 2 riders that are the same speed around a given track yet want 2 different settings its that personel.
