I like it both ways. Does that sound bad? I'm gonna do the 92 with a black 250 and black everthing else, and leave the new one [when it gets here] standard.

Looks nice from that angle, but need a side shot.I just dont like how they look when the fender is aimed at the sky.To each his own.

It only looks weird in pictures. In real life you only get a split second "glance" at it before the sand and rocks hit yer goggles!

This pict. shows both fenders......for me the fenders are for looks....as the bike is raced for SM only....the front fender would be useless off road in the rain and mud etc....any back fender isn't gonna stop rocks and dirt etc from flying out the back....as you guys know the 500 is the king of rock flinging........

I know what you guys mean about the fender looking like its pointing at the sky.  It took me a while (very short while) to get used to it. Then, after reading your guys' posts in this thread I started looking at some other bikes.  It turns out that there is hardly any difference between the way the fender fits on a KX250, and on the KX500.  I think that its just the difference between the looks of the stock 500 fender and the 250 fender. For example...

KX500 with a KX250 rear fender...

And a KX250...

Not much difference at all with the angle of the fender.  I think maybe it could be the profile of the seat and tank too.  If the big 5 had a flatter seat and low-profile tank it would probably flow better.

I see what you mean,I think the side panels and silencer on the 500 are level making the fender look sky ward!

I approached my fender conversion a bit different.  I must be trim challenged because I couldn't get mine to fit inside as nice as I would like.  The stock fits perfect inside and seals nicely against the airbox, the 93 UFO was nice outside... so I made the frankein-fender.  I cut both fenders in half and spliced them together under the seat.  Gives a slightly better overall fender angle as well (not pointing at the sky).  Sounds goofy but actually worked out rather well. Here's some pics. Cam.

I too like the old stock fender. The Kawasaki plastic is only a couple dollars more than the after market stuff. I found the after market plastic weathers and cracks easier than the stock.

Cam,

Got any pix of it on the bike? The splice job looks like a great idea.

Yup.  I heard about the trimming, that's why I asked if any of the later model KX250 rear fenders worked.

Do you get Acerbis or UFO?

I am going t order via Dennis Kirk because I also have to order the Pingel fuel valve and that would put it over $100 (no tax, free ship).

Thanks in advance on the brand of fender.

Kevin

Just a side note but as I remember those Pingel petrol taps are not a straight conversion onto KX tanks cos the standard tap is recessed into the tank slightly so the plate that comes with the tap is too big to fit into it.

You can either fill the recessed part of the tank in so its flat or grind the adapter plate to the right shape.

Don't ask me how I know

Another vote for the outdated old looking mudguard here also :)

I find it holds my road numberplate nicely and with it I don't need a dodgy looking numberplate hanger
