Kx 125 advice
« on: October 02, 2014, 10:11:32 AM »
Just bought a 99 kx 125 that I will begin going through. Any tips on things I should look for? I will go through top and bottom and bearings , ect. I will be making into an 125 b racer and also a play bike for myself and friends. Paid for $1000 for 99 kx 125 and 00 yz 125 both barely run but a nice little project for the winter.

Check all suspension bearings , including head bearings freshen shock and forks with new oil , and don't forget the swingarm bearings, wheel bearings , brake pads , just go through any thing that has a motion to it, now your on your way , what mods are you planning to get this sucker to haul some ass?

Check out my thread below. I'm doing a complete restoration on an 00' KX 125. Hopefully you'll find some helpful stuff in here. The boys on this board have been more than generous with their combined knowledge on my thread.

I haven't decided if I will make it a race gas guzzling big bore to race 250 and open class or keep it a race gas guzzling 125. Whatever I do I will do the yz the opposite. In time I will add all the sweet pro circuit goodies from that era. I hope to have one done by next season. I also picked up a trx250 a year ago, while all stock that will be changing as I will be making it into a hare scrambler.

Is there any known problem spots of frame cracking? Also any tips for rebuilding? Things that might catch me off guard. I'm fairly mechanical, I've completely rebuilt quite a few 2 strokes of my own with no problems. Its like Legos after a couple times anyways. How did you like the motion pro bearing tool?
