Didn't 87 have smaller studs and only need like 15lbft?

my specs told me 18 so thats what i did 1987 kx 250

I just read the whole thread Foxx4Beaver allready said 18 dushhh I should read b4 commenting

If you have taken the head stud's past 18.  You might add well order those too.   You have stretched them past t-y

Problem is that this part is no longer available....

Is it possible to go to the hardware store and get a fully threaded hex bolt and cut it to size?

I can also grind off the threads in the middle and make it look just like the stock ones.

several years ago, I had one do the same thing, I'd gotten it from LA sleeve with a big bore kit. I called and the guy told me there was no way it was leaking through the gasket, but it was. I had 2 head kits so I slipped in the other gasket and not problem and yes it was a Cometic gasket. Since then I have used literally hundreds of cometic kits with no issues.

So I got this today....



And fixed my leak...

It was a combination of the original crappy gasket (you can see it falling apart after removing it with that copper gasket spray) and torque wrench.

I was using my 1/2 drive torque wrench but it's really made for working with 35ft lbs and more. You can't really "hear" the click. You need to feel it. So I bought a 3/8" drive torque wrench a la harbor freight, $17.00.

And I was surprised how much 18ft lbs really is. When I originally over torqued it using the 1/2" drive, I probably was a little over 18ft lbs...but not by much.

Anyway, I torqued everything down using my new gasket and torque wrench and it worked.

star pattern. opposite sides basicly
