What year chain slider can I use for an 87 KX250?
« on: July 11, 2014, 08:07:23 AM »
Hi All,

I need to get a chain slider and I like the wrap around ones. My swing arm up front was damaged from the chain which I  repaired so I want to get a wrap around one.

I've seen this one:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/UFO-Plastics-Chain-Slider-Black-KA04709-001-Kawasaki-KX250F-09-13-/190851349533?pt=Motorcycles_Parts_Accessories&hash=item2c6fa07c1d&vxp=mtr

But I can't tell if the mounting holes will line up....

it's cheap enough to buy it and try it...if it don't work, re-list it on e-bay.

other than that, I'd get the ones that are made for it, and you can always take a piece of heavy duty inner tube, or something else, and make your own wrap around piece...use some ingenuity

here's the ones made for it...in black or green...

Just tried a kxf 14 chain slider on a kx250 91 swingarm ,which would be closer to a 87 than a f model, no holes match ,than I tried a 05 to 08 kx 250 2t it was closer, you would make the 2 back holes work by drilling and tapping new threads ,than again the 91 could be different from the 87 ,I have seen a guy use a plastic cutting board on a late kx f , because they eat chain sliders and guides for breaky even the tm stuff is a lot better, but I seen them gone in 50 hrs . Kawi has the angles in a way that eats them up? Plus the material is too soft.

the one that fox posted is the same one i got for my 87 and the chain wont rub on anything.  the wrap around ones off the newer bikes dont fit really good on the 87 I tried that too the holes dont line up.

Yeah I saw that one.....

I might try making one, but I'm not sure, or drill additional holes and make the wrap around work.

The chain from the previous owner put grooves into the front pivot of the swing arm which I repaired, so I'm trying to avoid that from happening again.

Still undecided...

dinky,

that was more than likely from a poorly adjusted chain...or he had a chain bind up tight there...I've owned quite a few bikes over the years, and never had that problem.

my swing arm is the same chain has been caught and bound up in that area i just checked again and the wrap around ones dont even have the material in the right spot to drill extra holes unless u thinking of drilling holes in the swing arm.   U could always cut the bend around piece and maybe fix it to the new slidders that work..  Just a thought

If it's a result of an improper chain adjustment then good....

I thought the reason for the wrap around was to correct the problem with the chain cutting into the swing arm because of design flaw.

I still have time to think about the slider. Right now I'm piecing the bike together enough so I can get the motor started.
