eBay is your friend...
The four stroke engine: That's one stroke for producing power and three for wearing the engine out.

Cylinder with valves
http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_trksid=p2050601.m570.l1313.TR0.TRC0.H0.X88+KX500+CYLINDER&_nkw=88+KX500+CYLINDER&_sacat=0&_from=R40

He does not know that the cylinder can't be bored oversize as it is.
It needs to be stripped, repaired, and re-plated.
Or, it needs to be sleeved.
So, what he is selling is a core that needs to rebuilt.
I would try to get him to take a much lower offer.

Also, 87 and 88 used the same two exhaust valves 12005-1080

If you need help with valves send me a pm.
1986, 87 and 88 all used the same valves. I've seen 3 different configurations of the valves.
Based on my past experiences 86-87 usually had aluminum valves, and the 88's used either aluminum or steel.
There are also different configurations on the operating rod in the 88 models, some of the timing marks are in different places compared to other sets I have seen.
Are just the valves trashed or is the rod as well?
Like as sandblaster mentioned it's easiest to find them hidden in cheap cores on ebay.

the actual teeth on the valves shaft are chewed up can other years teeth be cut nd welded on as such or pushed off and another set pushed on from another models
