Hi All,
The teeth on the drive side of my crank are starting to wear as well as the primary drive gear, on my 87 KX 250.
When the primary drive gear is installed on the crank, only half the teeth make contact. The other half of the teeth just hang off the other end, and the gear is fully seated....(crappy design).
I checked the manual and disassembled is carefully and I know there's nothing missing.
Anyway, the primary gear has some play now. If I put the gear on in reverse (just for testing purposes) it seems like it's normal play.
Problem is, I'm not sure if it's a good idea to have a new primary gear riding against a worn crankshaft gear.
So my other alternative, short of buying a new crank, is just to replace that half.
Is that a good idea? Just replacing half the crank? And will it need to be balanced?
dinky,
