water pump shaft
« on: April 05, 2014, 10:41:12 AM »
I got new bearings in the cover now.  The new issue is the pump shaft.  It's a very tight fit, like a press fit.  How do I know the correct depth?  Does it butt up against the bearing?

I have the same problem trying to remove mine.  I used a brass punch and hammer and gently tapped on it and nothing happens.  I'm afraid to beat it out.  Any suggestions?

My shaft was worn so I just ordered a new one. It wasn't expensive and with new bearings it pressed in pretty easy. I used the old one as a gauge for how far to press it in.  Here's a picture of the wear.

Did you use some type of press or a punch to install/uninstall.   Also is there some common place to order these parts or do you just OEM through some place like Motosport.com
