Hi Guys!

Need some help here!
A friend of mine have some trouble with his 4th gear.
When he up-shift and it?s engaged,it immedly pulls to higher 5th
gear. It?s a new rebuild 4th gears(both) and now after 1 hour of riding
it?s look not to "good" again. I have never had a problem with gearbox so I?m little lost here!

Suggestions?

Thx mikesmith,we will check that.

Maybe the gear positioning leverspring is to weak?
Or the shift mechanism armspring?
Something is worn who holds gears in place anyway.  :?
We will measure everything and check the worn limits.
If you found out something plz write!

Now that you mention it I do recall someone having a problem with the spring being weak. You may have got it there!

Doordie,

If the spings are weak, he'd have problems for all gears.  Look at the picture and you'll understand how it all works. Spring 1 is the spring which holds your chosen gear in place. Spring 2 is the spring which returns you gear lever to the middle position. There could be worn parts causing these problems for your mate, but not likely the springs.  Just my two cents...

Thx John for pic,awesome!

I think he had more than one problem.
Spring 1 is weak and worn dogs for gear 4
and maybe worn shiftforks for 4th gear too.
What about the spring 3? :?

By the way, nice to see your`r alive after Xmas and new year! :D

Doordie,

I HAD to make a picture extremly sharp (having slagged your pictures off)...

The last spring is used to retract the hooks which engage the pins on the drum. These "hooks" have to move with the rotation of the drum. They are retracted (to the left on the picture) when the gear lever returns to the middle.  This spring should not be involved in the problems your mate has.

I think the sping functions are more binary - either they work or they don't. I would look into worn parts or missalligned forks... check out the roll mechanism which fix the drum as well as the drum itself (spring 1 items).

And yes, "Gott Nytt Ar" to you too! Say hi to the family.

By the way, I will be bringing my 500 over to Sweden this summer if I can justify the additional costs of bringing the trailer on the ferry. It looks like it might be a cheaper option to buy a new bike... I will bring the KX85 for Linus - maybe your girls would like to try it out?

Doordie,
I would almost say worn dogs on the 4th gear. If the rotation can force the engaged dogs apart, the ratchet may pass the detent for 4th and then want to continue to 5th and cause an upshift.  Cam.
