Hi!
« on: March 09, 2014, 06:09:35 AM »
Hi guys, tom here, just picked up a 92 kx 250 today for cheap, it has a few things that need to be fixed but that's why the price was right, I'm pretty good at fixing 2 stroke machines, I have a ski doo sled and yamaha banshee that run like tops, I'm new the kawasaki scene but I'm sure with some research and advice I can figure it out.

Here's a pic:

ahh, you've been right in the heart of the extreme cold that's been filtering down into the U.S., making it one of the coldest winters in history here.
I've never been to Ontario, just Toronto, Quebec, and Montreal...love it up there.

Welcome Tom.
Foxx has it right, there is a ton of info on here and a lot of combined experience..
Use the search first, then ask away..
Post lots of pics of your progress  :-D
The four stroke engine: That's one stroke for producing power and three for wearing the engine out.

Thanks for the warm welcome guys, just a note though Toronto is the largest city in Canada. Ottawa is the nations capital, :)

I'm gonna use the search but if I can't find what I'm looking for I'll post in - different thread,
My first problem is the kick start slipping, I'm assuming that's a common problem lol

you're right it is in Ontario...but it's not the capitol.
alcohol does wonderfully strange things to the mind/brain when mixed with strong pain killing narcotics ...I never went up the tower as far as I can remember...see'ins how I was only 6-7yo then.

2 reasons: the ratchet is worn out over the years... or the spring makes to less compression...  i would say: buy a good used kickstart-assembly and replace it...
here you could compare, which years will match : www.cmsnl.com
than look at first to www.oem-cycle.com before ebay... thats sandblasters shop you could pm him which parts you need...

big 2 stroke bikes are weapons for real men, who don´t fear death or devil. ;O)

Kickstart Ratchet part# 13078-1063  about $45 brand new
Ratchet spring part# 92081-122  about $5 brand new
Kawie does have these listed as "in stock".

yeah, you're the 3rd person in the last week and a half that's had the same exact problem. The spring is a fine wire that gets sacked out fairly quick....and being a 20+ year old bike, the ratchet is probably worn as well.

definitely get a NEW snap ring(s)/cir-clip....others will agree on this....but while you have it apart, spend the $5 bucks on a NEW spring as well, for assurance....the one that's in the picture

Funny you say that cause I have parts galore lying around from various builds, I just happened to find both those things in my bin, slapped it all back together and now it kicks like new. No slippage. After all the years these bikes have been made in really surprised no ones come with a solution for a better design on this, weird

Anyways, no it's time to clean carbs re jet replace reeds with some VF 4's.

I have my work cut out for me, havnt even rode it yet lol, bought it today at 2:00
