Aluminum frames are 7 lbs heavier than the K5.

The four stroke engine: That's one stroke for producing power and three for wearing the engine out.

09 250f dropped 2 lbs off previous model frame , alloy more work and if not done right can have snapping problems , while steel is less work , watch out for rust from the inside out , now most of the frame are getting a few years on them , as well as were the swing arm bolt goes threw, come across a yz frame that is oval in a big way here and it should be scrapped.02 , 03 ,04 are good frames .

The 2000 model frame I've got is in really good condition I have drilled drain holls and once it is powder coted I'll fill it with wax oil to stop the inside rotting  :-)

I think what you get with the alloy frames is a more rigid platform, whether thats good or bad is in the eyes of the beholder. Also a better suspension package, and of course I will get the, I sent mine off and it works awesome, and you could send the newer off and it would probably work even better. Having said all this, if your just going to trail ride your bike it doesn't really matter. I have done a couple of 99-02 framed conversions, and I had no issues, felt they were better than the stock framed 500, the last  one I had I built in 04, and I was able to take a set of 04 250f forks and transplant them to the 02 chassis as well as a shock, I think I had to change the clevis to the shock though can't remember exactly. My current favorit 500 resides in a 05 kx250f steel frame, it is narrow, and handles really well. the only issue with the 99-02 chassis is the head stay, you will have to remove it cause it hits the tank, and even then you will have to warm the tank up and form it away from the head to give clearance and then build a head stay on the front of the head, you can look at JFAB's for sale on this site, he has a head stay for that conversion.

I also built a SFC 250f/500. Love the bike! I have built a couple CR5/alu. conversions and really like this K5/250f chassis.

This is going to be a full road legal supermoto running daytime mot , I've already done all the work to the frame relocated front engine mounts machined rear engine mount to take spindle.. I have made the front engine mount I have sin the ones you guys use but the head on my 88 looks a bit diffrent and don't fink the ones most people have used  will fit because of them being for a 89 onwords maybe wrong but Dident  wona take a chance on buying one for it not to fit plus I get a buzz out of macking  as much as I can :) as for suspension I'm running a 05 kxf front and rear end the rear end . Although it as bin a bit of a bithch to fit with the shock on the 99 being offset and the kxf being perfect centered so I have had to cud the bottom linkage on the frame and have it moved slitly and the top shock mount as we'll. a lot of work but fink it will be worth it,,, thanks for all the advice guys p.s u may not understand some of what I say because I'm from uk and not the sharpest knife in the draw lol
