500 2 stroke question
« on: February 02, 2014, 10:52:26 AM »
Hi all,

I wanted to ask - - - must a 500 2 stroke be ridden hard to keep from loading up and fouling plugs?  Is it the kind of bike that can be ridden in low speed situations for an extended period of time, or must it be ridden hard, not necessarily like a 125 2 stroke?

Thanks,

Nathan

if it's jetted correctly, you don't need to ride it hard to "clean it out"....I do a lot of 2nd and 3rd gear trails where I'm at, it all comes down to jetting for the type of riding your doing....if it's loading up on you a lot, then it's probably safe to say you could go a little leaner.I have yet to foul a plug on mine due to boggin it...knock on wood.

welcome aboard too!...just noticed it was your 1st post.

What was said. All about the tuning. Though it is not particularly fun (for me) I have done trails that were a lot of low speed first gear and clutch work riding. Bike is not really built for that but it will do it ok. Needed trail gearing. Easy to get into trouble with the power that is on tap. Like trying to slow trail ride a wild mustang! Wants to get cut loose! Last trip out like that was about four hours worth. Same plug is still in it.
