My old 85 Chevy got too far rusted to repair so I had to sell what I could and scrap the body and frame. 85 GMC High Sierra - 6" Superlift, 39.5" Mickey Thompson Baja Belted tires, 330ish HP 2 bolt 350, SM465 trans, NP208 T-case, Corporate 10 bolt front axle, 14 bolt full floater rear, 3:73 gears, and a home made oak flatbed. I miss that truck.


Now I currently have a pile of parts sitting in my garage and driveway. It used to be a 95 Ford F350 crew cab long box. I drove it to work every day last winter and averaged 9 MPG. By spring I said screw that and pulled the engine, trans, and t-case out and sold them. I bought a 94 Cummins 12 valve 5.9L 6BT and tore it down for all new gaskets/seals. Also bought a 95 Dodge 47RH trans and a 76 Ford divorced NP205 t-case. I fixed the rust on the cab. Deleted the front fuel door and relocated the rear fuel door a few inches back. Painted the truck with black tractor/implement paint. Installed 73-87 Chevy cutout fender flairs and a 2" body lift to accommodate the tall Cummins engine and big tires. Truck should be going back together here in the next few weeks. No current pics at the moment but will get some up asap. Here are a few before I took the ford engine out though.

Sounds cool can't wait to see pictures. Make sure you take some of the engine compartment and all mods :-D

It's been way too cold out to be working on the truck. It's been between 0 and -32 degrees out for way too long. 30 degrees would feel like summer :P I did manage to get a couple pics of the truck all pretty. Truck is factory height with 2" body lift. The roller tires that are on it are 315/75/16 = 34" tall.

Well have made some progress on this project. Finished my motor mounts about a week ago now. Got my tiny garage cleaned up so the truck could get squeezed in. Bolted the engine in and the ol lady and I managed to push the truck in the garage.

I have been pretty much working non stop on it since it made it's way inside. Ive got about 85% of the wiring done. I'm going through all the Ford wiring, finding what I need and removing the rest. I have all the lights, ignition, radio, and heater done. Almost finished with gauges as well. I still need to get a couple solenoids so I can hook up the grid heaters. Also need to figure out which route I want to go with an alternator. Leaning more towards factory Dodge with a Ford voltage regulator.

I have the 47RH trans bolted in as well. Working on shift linkage, controlling torque convertor lockup and overdrive. Just waiting on a couple pressure switches and the dodge electrical pigtails and the trans will be done.

I did get it started without the radiator and intercooler hooked up. Runs great. Turbo sings beautifully. Cant wait to get t-case and drive shafts in it so I can test drive this beast.

Haven't wanted to take any pics with wiring everywhere like silly string. As soon as I get that cleaned up a bit I'll get some video of it running and some pics. If anyone is interested in doing this kind of swap and needs advice or closeup shots of something I'll gladly help.

As of September 25th The truck is finished enough to drive it. YAY! Still have lots of things to upgrade. Brakes are the first thing. Stock vacuum brake booster doesn't work all that well even with the vacuum pump on the engine so I will upgrade to hydroboost. Stock fuel system is fine for the moment but by Xmas I hope to upgrade to an airdogg fuel system and tweak the p-pump a bit. Need to take the truck to the local mom n pop exhaust shop and get a custom exhaust made to fit the truck.

I'm going to try and do a write-up this week and get some pics and post them up. I've got 100 miles on it so far and everything is working perfect. It's not fast but it's the work truck/toy hauler I was hoping for. October 15th I will be hauling a 26ft enclosed trailer with a bunch of pinball games to Chicago for the annual pinball expo. If anyone is in the area come check it out. Look for Skit-B or the Predator pinball machine and I'll be around there somewhere.
