Hi Fellow KX riders
« on: January 21, 2014, 05:05:20 PM »
Just signed up, as have purchased a 1990 KX 500. My second Kawi, I had a Kawasaki 350 Avenger in the day. So got it for dune riding in Oregon and fill in trail riding in Mendocino National Forest.
Looks to be a fun bike to ride. It does need some fixing up. Problem being Kawasaki has stopped making some items for this bike.
Am currently looking for fork guards, front disc guard, mud flap. Seems there's parts for 91 and up. Would these work? At sometime Kawasaki went from 43's to a larger fork, don't know what year that happened.
Any other Kawasaki dirt bikes(years/models) that parts from them that would fit my 1990 KX 500.

Thanks for any info and help, write anytime. Take care, good riding to everyone here.

Hello mendotrailrider.
Welcome to the site.
Your a little south of Fort Bragg... That's a bit of a drive to the nearest Oregon Dunes.
On the engine, good news, nearly everything is a direct swap up to 04.
Body parts is a bit more tricky.
If you have 90 kx500 forks from a USA bike then you have 41mm forks and Kawi only used those forks for one year.
The mud flap you need fits the following:
86-89 KX125, 87-89 KX250, 87-04 KX500, 89-94 KDX200 - 35019-1159
The fork guards you need fit the following bikes:
FITS 90-93 KX125 KX250 KX500 - 55020-1384
The rotor guard you need fit the following bikes:
FITS 90-93 KX125 KX250 KX500 - 14024-1859-6F
I have a bunch of this info recorded here:
http://oem-cycle.com/KAWASAKIKX500BIKEID.shtml
Scroll down and way to the right..
The four stroke engine: That's one stroke for producing power and three for wearing the engine out.

I would watch eBay carefully.
You never know what great deals are lurking there..
