« on: December 23, 2013, 05:02:03 PM »
Hello everyone .. just time for the first run of 2002 kx 500. it's like a dinosaur .. horrible to drive, that goes directly, but not turn .. 132.5 mm dog bones to help, but what else? 250kx triple tree?? if what year?? or something else? kx 500 triple is 22mm offset..
what is this product offset and are they good?  http://brpmoto.com/products?page=shop.product_details&flypage=flypage.pbv.tpl&product_id=693&category_id=1598

maybe it looks like a dinosaur, but it handles even better...  8-)

is it your first 500?

offset of triple clamps is the same like 250 only difference is the stem in cause of the smaller bearings...  you could lift up the fork legs a little bit over the clamps, that gives more handling to the front end in turns.

you need a little bit defense in your riding style . all over the world is only a hand full of pro-riders, that could the k5 ride aggressiv up to all limits...  8-)

what also helps, is changing the rear sprocket , for smoother acceleration and to hold the frontwheel down on earth  :-)

hi poko...http://brpmoto.com/
your link wasn't working

I myself have never used BRP Racing products, but I know a few guys that do and have no complaints about them...and I have seen a set of triples in a thread on some ones build on here before.
Emig Racing has some really nice sets as well...  http://emigracing.com/  and there are guys on here that use them, not just for triple clamps.

Welcome to the site too!
Excuse me, ma'am...but you've got extremely nice legs!!!...what time do they open???                                                                                                               https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n8tCgN3aryQ

that I bought in 2002 and I want to keep it original!! but I will try to improve its use on the track! .. power is not me dizzy! but the frame geometry is designed for direct driving it interferes with the

sounded first like you never rode a 500 before... ;O)

i race a 87 frame and this bike handles real good in small turns and corners ... the frame is very similar to the kx500 frame ´88-2004 but it makes a big difference if i ride the 250, 360 or 500 engine in it...  the bigger the engine, the more torque and rotating masses are to handle .. with the 250 it is always easy playriding.  with the 500 is needed a lot more sensibility in the right hand to bring the power to the ground in very small turns.
i love this kind of power  :-D

I loved my 98 on the track except in the air it felt like a tank and I couldn't throw my 150 pounds around enough to make a difference in landing position. The 500 takes some practice in the corners to get decent. I raced for many years on many different size bikes. Until i got my 500 I was 100% comfortable/confident in any situation. Seemed like the 500 put me back to virgin as far as learning to ride all over again. Plan of attack is way different. Now when I ride a 250 I feel out of control and it also feels like a 80cc bike lol.
It's hard to keep a drivers license riding a 2 stroke dirt bike on the street.  If you drive within the law they are VERY boring.

yes, thats the reason, why i prefer the 87 kx for the evo-class. the ergomatics of tank and seat are so much better. tank is smaller and it feels more like modern bike, as the88/89 kx250 and 88-2004 k5-frames...
if i take my ´83 kx250 it is like riding 125 with squeezing out all rpm´s it is able to make..  8-) but this bike is realy fast, if i have the right track under the wheels . this bike really feels like big dinosaur if i try to whip it a little bit in the air, but i love it since my first ride/race after the restore..  8-)

motorrad is using the 48mm fork which gives a little bit more stability in the front end ... but the 46mm fork is with the right setup as good as the 48mm forks...

kawasaki-fork-clamps had mostly of the years a22 mm offset ...
and you should know, that destry abbott is one of the legendary baja1000- winners on the big kx .the reason for the 23mm upset is more stability on highspeed-straights, also the longer dogbones are effecting this... , but this also takes away a little bit of the handling in small corners  ...

as far as i understand you are searching for better handling .. what are you planning to ride with it? motocross? cross country? trails?

where are you located??

Pökö,you need two bikes...one for woods and one for iceroadracing like me.  8-)
You can´t make only one types to do well with the handling, very different set-up in my opinion.
(Look at my gallery...)
Iceroad champion 2006,still 2007,even 2008 without a single race!
