IMS tank cleaning??
« on: November 08, 2013, 02:39:50 PM »
I wanna hear what everyone has to say about this one......The translucent IMS tank I have has gone a yellowish color over the years and before I start experimenting I would like to hear if anyone has had any positive or negative experiences with getting these tanks back to its original color........ :|
I once heard my buddy Bill ask Danny Hamel after a race....

Ims  says to use kitchen cleaner.   Forget which. Its on their site   I think it was "SOFT SCRUB WITH BLEACH".  But not sure.

Magic erasers have worked for small spots on mine

But moonshine foreshots  work wonders

I would tink that the bleach part of the cleaner is key.

Before and after pics would be cool.

I was wondering about something along these lines myself. I have a like new translucent tank & I know its going to dye & age. I'd like to dye it purple or preferably green from the inside before I start using it in hopes it wont look as crusty as translucent tanks tend to do. I've thought of just getting a cheap mix oil & solvent, filling the tank & letting it sit for the next 6 months while I build the bike. Anybody have a better idea?

Sorry for the hijack just seems it could go hand in hand with restoring a translucent tank
if I only had a pair, I could actually ride this thing

No worries on the hijack......lets talk about all experienced/experiments both proved and failed on fuel tanks....

Is it fool/fuel proof? As long as it doesnt leave me with green crotch that sounds alot easier & cheaper  Should be easy to touch up as well

I've read of using Rit dye to color the tank. You need a big enough container I  believe to submersed the whole tank. YouTube it.

I'd still want a bit of translucency so a light green wash should do what I want, gonna be a big container for a 6.6 gal tank  :-P

recipe:

It'll be like that rmx250 with the 4gal ktm tank I sent you a link to, Where I grafted / riveted the 2 seat pans together to mate them & then just weld on the tabs for the tan mounts  . I havent got to it yet still collecting parts
